The True Gospel of Jesus Christ
A Biblical Foundation for Repentance, Holiness, and Salvation
Introduction: Why the Gospel Must Be Defined Again
The word “gospel” is used constantly in modern Christianity, yet it is rarely defined with biblical precision. Messages are preached, churches gather, and decisions are made — but the central question remains:
What is the True Gospel of Jesus Christ?
The Gospel is not religious identity. It is not emotional experience. It is not verbal confession without transformation.
Scripture declares that the Gospel is “the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). But biblical belief is never detached from surrender. The True Gospel of Jesus Christ reveals grace, confronts sin, demands biblical repentance, and produces transformation.
Anything less is incomplete.
1. The Gospel Begins With the Holiness of God
The Gospel begins with who God is.
• God is holy (Isaiah 6:3).
• He is righteous (Psalm 11:7).
• He is just (Deuteronomy 32:4).
Scripture declares, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Sin is not merely behavior — it is rebellion against a holy Creator.
If God were not holy, there would be no need for redemption. Because He is holy, sin must be judged.
2. The Cross: Substitution, Not Symbol
At the center of the Gospel is the cross of Jesus Christ.
“He Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree” (1 Peter 2:24).
The cross was substitutionary. The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Christ bore judgment so mercy could be extended.
The resurrection confirms that the sacrifice was accepted (1 Corinthians 15:3–4).
Holiness and salvation are not self-improvement. It is rescue through Christ’s finished work.
3. Biblical Repentance Is a Turning
When Jesus began preaching, He declared: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17).
Repentance means:
• A change of mind
• A turning from sin
• A submission of the will
• A realignment with truth
On Pentecost, Peter commanded, “Repent… and let every one of you be baptized” (Acts 2:38).
Repentance is not emotional regret. It is transformation in direction. Without repentance, there is no conversion.
4. Grace That Transforms
Grace is not permission to remain unchanged.
“For the grace of God… teaches us that, denying ungodliness… we should live soberly, righteously, and godly” (Titus 2:11–12).
Grace forgives. Grace empowers. Grace transforms.
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Where the Gospel is truly received, Gospel transformation follows.
5. The Evidence of New Birth
Jesus said, “You must be born again” (John 3:7).
Born again truth produces new life.
• Sin loses dominion (Romans 6:14).
• The old self is crucified (Galatians 2:20).
• Obedience becomes evident.
The True Gospel produces fruit.
6. The Gospel Prepares a Holy People
The Church is called the Bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:25–27). “Be holy, for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16).
The True Gospel prepares a people for Christ’s return. It produces separation from mixture, endurance in truth, and loyalty to Christ.
It does not produce casual Christianity.
7. What the True Gospel Is Not
It is not:
• Cultural religion
• Emotional Christianity
• Grace without repentance
• Faith without obedience
Jesus warned that many would say “Lord, Lord,” yet remain unknown to Him (Matthew 7:21–23). The True Gospel is narrow because truth is narrow.
8. The Proper Response
“Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith” (2 Corinthians 13:5).
• Have you repented?
• Has your life changed?
• Are you walking in obedience?
The Gospel confronts and restores. It divides truth from mixture.
Conclusion
The True Gospel reveals:
• God’s holiness.
• Christ’s substitution.
• Repentance required.
• Grace that transforms.
• A Bride being prepared.
